Roles, Races and Character Choices

Can I be a…?
The answer most likely is yes. Star Wars is a rich and diverse setting open to all sorts of species. Wanna be a Wookie? Sure! A droid? Go for it! Be as creative as you can. But please also give consideration to the setting. We want to encourage diversity though, so if you propose a character is too similar to another player, we might ask you to reconsider. While generally the Star Wars Legends are not accepted canon, we make an exception for the Legends species, because it's too fun not to.
Star Was Sentient Species
Star Wars Human and Near Human Species
As a Republic leaning outpost, some species which are empire aligned are more challenging to include such as Chiss. If you’re considering playing one of these species please reach out to the GM to discuss, and be ready with a back up character in case we cannot accommodate your first choice. This also applies to OP species like Gen-Dai.
As well as a wide range of species and types of characters, Star Wars plays host to a broad range of powers and powerful figures, but not all of them are likely to find themself based on a remote planet like Hoth. Because of this we encourgae players to create characters which are balanced, and avoid power gaming scenarios.
Characters will also need a compelling reason to find themselves on Hoth, as it is not a tourist destination. Smugglers will have to find reasons to deal with Republic officials if they are to visit the base for example. Salvagers and Bounty Hunters can both find plenty of contracts available from the command office.
You want to be a powerful Jedi? Sadly this is a backwater planet where Jedi are unlikely to congregate. Please check the open positions to see if there are any Jedi roles currently available. If not then there are plenty of other ways to be a badass and even the most powerful in this setting are fallible and part of the daily struggle to survive Hoth’s environment. It is not in constant success that we find drama and character development but in the nitty gritty of our flaws and failings. Don’t be afraid to swing big and fall hard, and share both victory and defeat generously with the other players.
