Personality & Traits
General Overview | Bul is like most Besalisks - gregarious and adventurous, somehow perceived as gruff. However, as most of his associates would explain, Bul is anything but “gruff.” He is devoted and loyal to his family and, as long as your credits are good, his employer. He developed a “mercenary” mindset from years of scrounging and working various cargo-hauling tramp freighters. While he doesn’t specifically seek out criminal enterprises, he has been caught up in several and faced punishment accordingly.
Strengths & Weaknesses | S - gregarious, open to new experiences, dedicated to his family, self-preservation instinct W - Impulsiveness, a tendency to be absentminded, temperamental |
|
Ambitions | To get back to his family and provide for his Jawa sidekick, Okleckt, until he can return him to his tribe.
Hobbies & Interests | Huttese poetry, homemade Besalisk grog, and finding a working, ATQ-51h Droid Power Supply (don’t ask…really.) |
Personal History | Bul doesn’t talk much about his life on Odom but he’s got an overabundance of stories about his life once he left the planet. He first hired onto a freighter crew as a deckhand, lugging cargo and doing just about anything else the First Mate told him to do. Bul worked his way through numerous crews, usually making a name for himself as a scrounger. He also developed the talent of brewing potent “Besalisk grog,” which was his own recipe he claimed he’d learned from his family. Bul’s relationship with the Hutts formed around this time, as he worked as First Mate on several of their ships. He earned a reputation for delivering their freight, intact and on time, which saw him promoted to his own freighter. Bul shed his naivety with the first load of spice and glitter sticks he hauled. However, he secretly hated that he was hauling people’s misery and addiction. He stated saving his credits in the hopes of purchasing his own ship, but the Hutts had other ideas. Bul’s first run in with Republic authorities came when he was caught running a load of spice to the Mid Rim. He suspected, and has maintained, that he was set up by the Hutts in an effort to stay under their thumb. But, Bul kept his mouth shut and claimed he was in business for himself. His solidarity saw him sentenced to hard labor in the penal colony on Odik II. After doing several years of his sentence, Bul was released and struck out on his own. It wasn’t long however, before the Hutts came calling. He gently denied their generous offers, preferring to scrape by on his own, until they forced Bul’s hand. Bul was blackmailed into one last run; this time, he’d be leading a crew of scavengers to a Republic ship yard to snag tasty ship parts. The payout, Bul calculated, would allow him to buy his own ship and move out of Hutt-controlled space. But the Hutts, once again, had other plans. Bul picked up his crew, assembled by the Hutts, and had successfully infiltrated the ship yard when things went very wrong. Three members of the crew, a Devaronian, an Aqualish and a Dug, found themselves cornered by security forces assigned to the shipyard and a melee ensued. Soon, the civilian workforce was alerted to the fight and waded in with gusto. The Devaronian fired the first shot and the other two took their cue. During the ensuing firefight, 7 security force guards and 5 civilian workers were killed. Bul commandeered a nearby crate skiff and swooped in to extract the three members of his crew, retreating to their ship with no further loss of life. The other members of the crew had already loaded the haul and had the ship ready to lift off. Bul and the ship’s engineer, a Jawa named Okleckt, were abandoned as the others rocketed off to safety. Republic officials swiftly arrested Bul and Okleckt before the outraged dockworkers could lay hands on the unlikely duo. At first, Bul was going to be charged for the murders. However, his court-appointed attorney successfully argued that Bul was merely the leader of the crew and that, while yes he was responsible for the theft, the actions of the Devaronian, the Aqualish and the Dug were their own. In a secret deal, both Bul and Okleckt named the other conspirators in exchange for a lessened sentence. Given the choice of going to a penal colony to conscripted service in the Republic military, Bul and Okleckt elected for military service. |

Known Rumours | - Bul is rumored to have orchestrated the most daring spice heist in Nar Shaddaa history, but somehow *no one* knows exactly how they pulled it off.(False: Bul was on Nar Shaddaa to deliver a load of the invasive plant known as “Toydarian turnips” to a buyer who distills them for alcohol) - Bul and Okleckt once found an assassin Droid, repaired it and set it loose after a rival. (Somewhat False: They repaired the Droid and in return, the Droid was compelled to attack a bounty hunter tracking the pair.) - Bul worked as a smuggler and once delivered a shipment to a buyer who had been dead for years. The credits still cleared. (True) - Bul and Okleckt killed a Hutt to get out of a deal with the Hutt (Somewhat True: Gorra the Bloated was accidentally killed. She had brought Bul and Okleckt to her palace to feed her feral wraids. However, through a series of unfortunate accidents, Gorra ended up being eaten alive and Bul and Okleckt fled the Outer Rim.) |
