Personality & Traits

General Overview Barrick tends to be stoic. He's more likely to point out what someone is doing wrong than engage in small talk. He follows a strict routine, but isn't afraid to voice concern to orders he disagrees with. It is not easy to know what he is feeling. He, himself, hardly knows most of time.
Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths:
Master of Recon & Stealth Flying – Trained as a scout pilot, skilled in infiltration, tracking, and long-range navigation.
Cold Under Pressure – Doesn’t panic, doesn’t freeze—he calculates the odds and acts accordingly.
Resilient & Adaptable – He’s spent years being underestimated, discarded, and tested. He knows how to survive.

Weaknesses:
Emotionally Distant – Keeps everyone at arm’s length, including those who care about him.
Still Has Imperial Habits – He speaks with military precision, follows orders too well, and still carries Imperial discipline in how he moves, talks, and fights.
Reckless When Challenged – If someone questions his loyalty, he will take unnecessary risks to prove them wrong.
Ambitions Prove He Belongs in the Republic – He defected, was imprisoned, and still isn’t trusted. That needs to change.
To Be More Than Just "The Defector" – He wants to be seen for his skills, not just his past.
To Settle the Conflict With His Sister – Whether that means confronting her or letting her go, he doesn’t know yet.
Hobbies & Interests Starfighter Modification –He tweaks his Republic-issued ship, adding subtle Imperial tech improvements where he can.
Cartography & Navigation – He knows hyperspace routes most people don’t, thanks to years of covert recon work.
Hand-to-Hand Combat Training – Prefers quick, decisive takedowns. He's not the best, but doesn't back down from a spar.
Drinking Alone at the Cantina – Never to get drunk—just to listen, watch, and disappear.

Personal History Upbringing (14 ATC–3 ATC)
Barrick Rask was the firstborn son child to Haldan and Tessa Rask. He was born 14 years before the Treaty of Coruscant in Kaas City, Dromund Kaas. At the time, the Great Galactic War was in full swing. His mother, officially, was a Clerk in the Imperial Information Depot, which handled simple comms, holonetworks, and trade markets. His father was a part of the Imperial Engineering Corps, who's primary responsibility was the repair and improvement of starfighters. He also maintained a garage to work on swoop bikes in his spare time.

Three years later, Barrick's sister, Lorrea, was born. The two grew up amongst the stormy landscape of the city. The Sith Empire treated the family well enough. Education was free and in-depth. They never had to worry about food, power, or heat, which wasn't always the case in the Outer Rim. Barrick aspired from a young age to serve the Empire. As he grew older, he would help his father repair swoop bikes. Soon, it turned into old starfighters. During this time, Haldan instilled some principles about morality, and how it can sometimes be a dubious thing while working for the empire.

By his teenage years, Barrick was able to pilot both decently enough. Lorrea and he would race through the forests and canyons of Dromund Kaas. The two gained the attention of Imperial Navy recruiters. The war came to a close with the signing of Coruscant. However, the Sith Empire continued to build forces for the inevitability of rekindling the battle. Before finishing secondary school, Haldan was killed in an accident with an experimental starfighter. Tessa was sad, but did not seem surprised. Preliminary reports suggested Republic intervention, but nothing was conclusive. Barrick wanted to make a difference, so he joined the Imperial Naval Academy.

Imperial Service (3 ATC–10 ATC)
Barrick's experience in the Naval Academy refined his dedication to the Sith Empire. They required compliance, and Barrick wasn't one to disobey superiors. He was particularly skilled at his methodology and flying skills. Barrick's strengths were in long range surveillance, hyperspace route tracking, and enemy fleet tracking. He was assigned to the Imperial Scout Division Training. He excelled at "silent approach" drills, but questioned why he had to pass planetary bombardment and non-combatant suppression trainings. His instructors were not fond of the questions, and Barrick ultimately passed them.

His sister, Lorrea, later joined, and exceeded his marks and was placed in Ace Pilot Training. Between her raw talent and complete compliance to the Empire, she became top of her class quickly. When Barrick graduated, he was assigned to be a scout and recon pilot of the S-12 Blackbolt.

He was assigned to Scout Squadron Thesh-12, which was a long-range reconnaissance unit in the Outer Rim. Much of his work was alone, to evade detection. He was tasked with monitoring deep space communication and Republic fleet movements. As well, enemy observations and potential strike areas for the Imperial Navy. He was reported to be a "decently loyal, but unremarkable pilot. Nomadic in spirit, following the engine trails of the Republic."

This earned him the callsign "Nomad." His career continued with more surveillance. He also had his share of skirmishes against the Republic. The Thesh-12 squadron was reassigned to another sector for more surveillance.

Naval Command had them recon potential "agents of the Republic" on sparsely populated planets. Barrick was able to relay that information. He was not informed exactly who or what he was scanning, but he followed orders. During one of his surveillance sweeps, he realized that the outpost he was investigating was actually a civilian settlement made by Republic medics to aid war refugees. At that point, he realized that relaying that information would mean the deaths of those civilians.

He falsified reports to delay the Empire's advance. He warned the outpost of the incoming attack, and provided escort of the civilian transports to a safe location. He held off some Imperial starfighters while the transports were getting to a hyperspace zone. One of those pilots was Lorrea, who did not hold back in her pursuit of Barrick. So, he turned to the only place she wouldn’t dare follow—republic space.

Defection and Imprisonment
Showing up in a barely functioning S-12 made it easy for the squadron that found him to not grant him asylum. He was intercepted and had no means to prevent detention. Surrender was his only option. Even if he found a way back to Imperial space, he would face a worse fate than his predicament at the time.

Immediately after being taken onto a Republic cruiser, and questioned. Barrick made no attempt to lie about his profession; it was hard to when he’s wearing an imperial pilot’s uniform. He was sent to an SIS prison on a planet that he never was given the opportunity to see. There, he was heavily interrogated on his entire life and career. Barrick requested defection, but they were rightfully suspicious if he was a plant.

Every part of his Imperial past was dissected: growing up on DK, his father’s death, his mother’s supposed position, his service, what skirmishes he participated in, what targets he surveyed. Even without advanced interrogation techniques, Barrick willingly gave up all information he had. He figured that the Empire would change strategic waypoints after his defection, but he gave those up willingly too. After interrogations came psychological evaluations to ensure that Barrick was not a sleeper agent.

Barrick was not mistreated, but neither was he trusted. He was placed in solitary confinement for extended periods, questioned on potential sleeper-agent status, Imperial espionage tactics, and the possibility of long-term manipulation.

For three years, he lived in limbo. He was not a prisoner, not a Republic citizen, but an unresolved threat. Eventually, SIS determined that there was no evidence of war crimes or deeper Imperial ties. While many within the Republic Navy still argued for his continued detention, it was ultimately decided that his knowledge of Imperial fleet operations made him a valuable asset—one that they could use, but not trust.

Instead of granting him a real position within the Republic Navy, Barrick was "provisionally" reinstated under strict supervision, assigned to a remote outpost on Hoth—far from the war, far from major fleet operations, and far from anyone who might consider him an equal.

As he left the prison, the lead Intelligence officer’s final words to him were clear:

"You’re not one of us, Rask. You never will be. Prove us wrong."

With nothing else left, Barrick took the commission. And for the first time in three years, he was a pilot again. But he wasn’t free. Not yet.
Known Rumours Tumultuous Past - Barrick has seen his share of conflict with the Republic. He's taken down other starfighters. He faces what many defectors must deal with—potentially facing a friend or family member of a pilot one has killed.

Hunted - While he wasn't a particularly high-ranking imperial pilot, Barrick did handle sensitive information. Most of it he was not privy to, but that didn't stop the Empire from placing a small-time bounty on his head.

Familial Ties - Barrick dejects all the Empire stands for, but still has family on the other side that remain loyal. He has vowed to prevent them from doing any more harm. However, if his sister ends up in his sights, will he press the trigger?
